Le nouveau film d’Ethan Cohen, cette fois-ci en « solo ». Une histoire LGBTQ + centrée sur deux lesbiennes ayant en leur possession une valise contenant des éléments très compromettants sur un sénateur. Et encore le mot est faible.
Jamie (Margaret Qualley) et Marian (Geraldine Viswanathan) sont en plein « road trip » en direction de Talahasse (Capitale de la Floride) et ignorent qu’elles ont en leur possession dans le coffre de leur voiture une valise contenant des éléments compromettant pour un sénateur. Des hommes sont à leur trousse pour récupérer la valise aussi rapidement que possible.
« Drive away dolls » est une histoire destinée principalement à la communauté LGBTQ+ et le film - aux États Unis - est interdit aux moins de 18 ans. En France juste un avertissement. Délirant mais c’est comme ça au nom d’une certaine liberté. Je pensais qu’il fallait régulariser un peu plus le sexe et le porno. Excusez-moi je n’ai - encore - rien compris au système français.
Le film démarre avec deux lesbiennes, Jamie et Marian en pleins ébats sexuels avec des plans de poitrine féminine ultra graphique le tout couplé à des gémissements de plaisir intense. Je ne suis pas certain que ce soit la meilleure façon de débuter un film, même une comédie.
En suivant leurs aventures, la chose principale dont elles parlent est de sexe, de sexe et encore de sexe. Les dialogues sont parfois hyper crus - et c’est peu dire - je ne pense pas non plus que le public veuille voir bon nombre de jeunes filles se bécoter. A mon avis (faites le vous me remercierez probablement après), ne le regardez pas avec mamie ou la famille car il peut être parfois vraiment très embarrassant. Surtout quand arrive le moment où - littéralement et visuellement - l’histoire se concentre sur des moules de pénis. Vous avez bien lu. Je ne suis pas sûr également que le public veuille tout connaître de la vie sexuelle de deux jeunes filles.
Nos deux actrices principales jouent leur rôle de petit couple de façon impeccable. De temps en temps, le récit est coupé par un montage ultra psychédélique qui la plupart du temps m’a totalement perdu. Je ne comprends pas pourquoi un tel type de montage a été utilisé. Passons……
Le film - bien sûr - est une comédie mais je pense qu’il va un peu trop loin car vraiment cru et vulgaire. Oui, certains d’entre vous sont probablement en train de penser que je suis trop vieux jeu, mais les aventures LGBTQ+ ce n’est pas - du tout - mon truc. Je n’ai rien contre ces gens-là, mais ce n’est pas du tout mon monde même si deux de mes plus proches amis sont gays et ont toujours été à mes côtés quand j’en avais besoin. Cela ne veut pas dire que je veux tout savoir sur ce qu’ils font au lit et c’est plus ou moins ce que vous entendrez dans ce film. Fascinant…
J’ai été aussi très désagréablement surpris par le réalisateur Ethan Cohen qui nous a tout de même habitués à tout à fait autre chose. À un point donné, nos deux protagonistes rencontrent une équipe de football féminine. On veut nous faire croire que chaque fille de cette équipe est lesbienne ? Là on se fiche du monde. Où serait-ce - honnêtement - la culmination des quatre dernières années de l’administration Biden où on se permet tout et n’importe quoi. De ce point de vue étant aux U.S. ils y ont été franco. Mais décliner ça en films ? On n’en a peut-être pas vraiment besoin.
« Drive away dolls « est pour le public LGBTQ+. Autre exemple de ce qu’Hollywood en termes de choix devrait éviter à l’avenir, car le public n’est tout simplement pas au rendez-vous. Le film a été un tel flop au box-office que dans certains multiplexes il fut retiré dès le lundi des grandes salles pour une salle beaucoup plus petite. Les résultats furent à ce point désastreux.
Personnellement je voulais le voir pour Matt Damon, mais cela ne s’est pas fait ce week-end là. Je suis très honnêtement heureux d’avoir pu épargner mon temps et mon argent. Je me demande d’ailleurs ce que fichait Matt Damon dans un tel film. L’argent ? J’en doute très fortement.
Même chose pour Pedro Pascal - Le Mandalorian - comment a-t-il pu se fourvoyer dans un tel film ?
urrait plaire à un certain type d’audience, mais en l’état, tout du moins pour moi, sa vulgarité et sa grossièreté sont carrément répulsifs et - disons-le - il lorgne fortement parfois côté porno. Je ne pense pas que nous aurons à nouveau ce type d’œuvre sur les écrans avant longtemps surtout dû à ses résultats - catastrophiques - au box-office, tout du moins aux USA.
Rendez-vous service et attendez qu’il passe à la télévision pendant un après-midi pluvieux ou neigeux d’hiver et vous vous retrouverez peut-être à zapper sur une autre chaîne très rapidement.

The new film from Ethan Cohen, this time going solo. A LGBTQ+ story centered around two lesbians carrying a suitcase containing highly compromising elements for a senator. And that’s putting it very mildly.
Jamie (Margaret Qualley) and Marian (Geraldine Viswanathan) are on a road trip to Tallahassee (Capital of Florida) unknowingly carrying a suitcase containing elements that could compromise a US senator. People are already on their trails to find them and retrieve the highly compromising suitcase as quickly as possible.
This is mainly LGBTQ+ aimed material and the movie is rated R in the U.S. In France the censorship only gave it a warning. Totally out of this world but that’s the way it is in the name of « freedom ». Take your ten-year-old and you’ll most likely flee the theatre after 10 minutes. I thought France needed to regulate Sex and porn. Sorry I must have missed the « French mark » again….
It opens with two lesbians, Jamie and Marian having sex with highly graphics shots of breasts coupled with deep moaning sound of pleasure. Not quite sure this is the best way to open a comedy but anyway…
As we follow their adventures, they mainly talk about sex, sex, and sex again. Dialogue is sometimes highly crude - to say the least - I’m not even sure people want to see plenty of women kissing either so here is my best advice (you’ll probably thank me later), don’t watch this with gramma or the family as it may become a little bit too embarrassing at some point especially when the story - literally and visually - is about molded penises. You read right. I’m also not quite sure that the audience truly wants to hear about the sex life of two girls either.
Our lead actresses play their respective roles impeccably and they make for a very cute couple. As the film progresses, we’re treated by an out of this world psychedelic editing which for the most part totally lost me. Why using this kind of editing is still beyond me.
The film is - of course - a comedy but I think it goes a bit too far in its crudeness and vulgarity. Some of you are probably thinking I’m an old fart by writing this but I’m just not into LGBTQ + adventures. I have nothing against these people but it’s not my world even though two of my closet friends are gay and have always been by my side in time of needs. This doesn’t mean I want to hear about their sex life and what they love doing to each other in bed which, in our movie is pretty much what you’ll be hearing. Fascinating.
I’ve also been very badly surprised by director Ethan Cohen who’s brought us much better movie choices. At some point, our two leads meet the entire female soccer team. We - the audience - are supposed to believe that every girl on that team is gay ? Seriously ? They’re really taking the audience for fools. Or would it be the culmination of the past 4 years of the Biden administration where everything and anything is allowed ? Being in the U.S. I did witness it on that front and indeed they went full steam. But shaping it into a movie ? Most definitely no-thank-you.
« Drive away dolls » is another example that Hollywood should stay away from certain themes as the audience is simply not interested. The movie was such a box office bomb that in some multiplexes it was removed the following Monday from the Friday release to much smaller auditoriums. That’s how bad it was.
Personally wanted to see it for Matt Damon but for some reason it didn’t happen that weekend. I’m honestly glad I saved my time and money. I’m still even wondering what the hell was Damon doing in there. The money ? I highly doubt it.
The same applies for Pedro Pascal - The Mandalorian - how In the hell did he also board this thing ?
« Drive away dolls » may appeal to a certain kind of audience but as it is - for me at least - its vulgarity and crudeness are downright repulsive and it’s - let’s say it - it leans heavily as being borderline porn.
I don’t think we’ll get another one of this kind of cinematic outing anytime soon, especially with its - catastrophic - box office results at least in the U.S.
Do yourself a favor and wait for it on TV for one rainy or snowy winter afternoon and still you may find yourself zapping to another channel quite quickly.
